In a city teeming with artists, designers, makers, hackers, and creators, it’s a breeze to find evidence of their creativity all over town. Guerilla gardens spring up in alleys and empty lots, city fixtures get yarn-bombed when you’re not looking, and we’ve got no shortage of art bikes, graffiti art, and just plain cheekiness. We’ve also got no shortage of creativity-focused events all year long, from small informal events like the knitting circle at your local yarn shop and hacker nights at Vancouver Hack Space, to large whiz-bang events like the Vancouver Mini Maker Faire to Illuminares (which turns 25 this year! Holy moley!).
DIY or Die has been part of Vancouver’s hands-on learning scene since 2010, when we started holding classes and workshops at Plush On Main. Now that Plush has closed its doors, we’ve begun to pair our instructors with new venues, and classes will resume soon! New venues also means new classes, since we’re no longer restricted by the need to keep all things liquid, smelly, and dirty out of the workspace! We’re still working out all the details, and we’ll start posting classes and events as soon as we’ve got things firmed up with our new venues. If you want to know what’s coming up, you can join our email list. In the meantime, mark the first weekend of June on your calendars -that’s when Maker Faire returns to the PNE forum, and we hope to see you there!
